This 15 page movie guide with handouts is for the film "Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008)". This guide will also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.

PART 1 – Comprehension Questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions will also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.
• 35 questions requiring full sentence answers.
• 25 questions requiring full sentence answers (10 removed from the 35 question set)
• 25 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers
PART 2 – Storyboard, synopsis and recount
• Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to remind them of the sequences.
• Synopsis. Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.
• Students to imagine they’re Sean’s friend and got invited on the same field trip. They need to recount their experience from the beginning of the arrival at the center of the earth, to the time they end up in Italy. Students to include three drawings to help visualize the adventure.
PART 3 – Just for fun word search and crossword puzzle (10 questions with the answers being the words to find in the word search) also 5 additional words to find. Answer key included
Marking idea for the comprehension questions
When the students have finished the questions, they swap their work with their friends to mark. We go through together as a class, taking it in turns to ask and answer questions. Students can also check grammar and spelling if more advanced, and then rechecked by the teacher.
