Arthur the King Movie Guide + Activities | Answer Keys Included

This 14 page movie guide with additional activities accompanies the film "Arthur the King (2024)".

This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.

PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple-choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.

  • 40 questions requiring full sentence answers.
  • 30 questions requiring full sentence answers (10 removed from the 40-question set)
  • 29 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers + the final question is a full sentence answer.

PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis

  • Students to draw a 9-scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
  • Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.

PART 3 – Creativity

  • Students to imagine they're junior reporters working on an exciting article about Team Broadrail's Dominican Republic race. They need to bullet point important events and construct imaginative quotes from interviewing the team after the race.
  • Using the information from the previous section, students to write an exciting article about the adventures of Team Broadrail's race. Include a drawing.

About the movie

Based on the memoir by Mikael Lindnord, the movie follows an American runner and his adventure racing team as they make their way through a 5-day race in the Dominican Republic. During the race they encounter a stray dog who starts to follow them on their adventure.

PART 3 – Class discussion and Creativity (action plan) - may also work well in pairs.

  • 5 inference questions for the students to answer.
  • Students to imagine they have been asked to help make a plan to retrieve Scotty's dad's precious signed ball. Using a rough sketch of the sandlot, students number the steps on the map and write a more detailed description of their plan of action on the next page.

The movie follows the new kid in town Scotty Smalls as he tries to make new friends before summer. Not knowing much about baseball, Scotty is taken under the wing of young baseball prodigy Benny Rodriguez and invited to join the rest of the kids on the sandlot to play baseball for the summer.

PART 3 – Word fun and word search

• There is a word bank with 15 words related to the movie to use in this part. For the first section students to unscramble the words from the word bank. Next is drawing a line through the letters spelling one of the words. Last of all is answering questions and clues to find the words.

• Storyboard - Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to remind them of the sequences.

Marking idea for the comprehension questions

When the students have finished the questions, they swap their work with their friends to mark. We go through together as a class, taking it in turns to ask and answer questions. Students can also check grammar and spelling if more advanced, and then rechecked by the teacher.
