Hook Movie Guide + Activities | Questions | Worksheets | Answers Included

This 16 page movie guide with additional activities is for the film "Hook (1991)".

PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple-choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.

PART 2 – Discussion questions and character mind map

Loosely based on the book by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Set during World War I, the movie follows young Sara Crewe, a kind and imaginative girl who is sent to a strict boarding school in New York while her father fights in the war. The film is a powerful story about resilience, friendship, and the strength of the human spirit.

PART 3 – Creativity

  • Students to imagine they are Vikings in the world of How to Train Your Dragon and they discover a dragon. They need to sketch it then describe it.
  • Following on from the last one, Students to draw themselves as Vikings with a written description, followed by writing about their first flight with their dragon.

Based on the novel by Cressida Cowell, the movie is about a young Viking who challenges his tribe’s battle against dragons after uncovering a secret that could change their future. As tensions rise and loyalties are tested, he must choose between following tradition or risking everything to unite two worlds on the brink of war. This is rated PG, you can get a free permission slip here.

PART 2 – Storyboard, sentence writing, word search and crossword

  • Students to draw a 6 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the animation. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the questions to help with the sequences.
  • Students to write sentences using the beginning of each letter in the word Easter. Followed by writing about a time in the animation a characters felt happy, sad and excited.
  • Students to complete a 10 clue crossword puzzle followed by a word search. The word search has 15 words to find, 10 of which are the answers from the crossword.
  • Students to design and color an Easter egg for the Easter Beagle then describe it. Followed by writing a short paragraph on who will receive the egg and why.

This TV short is about the Peanuts gang getting ready for Easter with their usual quirky antics. Peppermint Patty tries to teach Marcie a holiday skill, while Linus has faith in a mysterious Easter figure. Snoopy adds his own playful twist to the festivities.

  • Students to write about one of the characters following the question prompts and to include a drawing of their chosen character.

PART 3 – Word search

  • There are 20 words for students to find in the word search. First they must unscramble 7 words (character names) followed by answering the 5 clues (animals in the movie). Followed by the final 8 words listed below those. Answers included.

Based on the novel by Peter Brown, the movie is about a kind robot who crash lands on a remote island inhabited by animals. To survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the island's animals and soon finds herself experiencing more than she’s programmed for.

About the movie

Based on the memoir by Mikael Lindnord, the movie follows an American runner and his adventure racing team as they make their way through a 5-day race in the Dominican Republic. During the race they encounter a stray dog who starts to follow them on their adventure.

The movie follows the new kid in town Scotty Smalls as he tries to make new friends before summer. Not knowing much about baseball, Scotty is taken under the wing of young baseball prodigy Benny Rodriguez and invited to join the rest of the kids on the sandlot to play baseball for the summer.

• There is a word bank with 15 words related to the movie to use in this part. For the first section students to unscramble the words from the word bank. Next is drawing a line through the letters spelling one of the words. Last of all is answering questions and clues to find the words.

Marking idea for the comprehension questions

When the students have finished the questions, they swap their work with their friends to mark. We go through together as a class, taking it in turns to ask and answer questions. Students can also check grammar and spelling if more advanced, and then rechecked by the teacher.
