Night at the Museum Movie Guide + Activities | Answer Keys Included

This 14 page movie guide with additional activities accompanies the film "Night at the Museum (2006)".

This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.

PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.

  • 40 questions requiring full sentence answers.
  • 30 questions requiring full sentence answers (10 removed from the 40 question set)
  • 29 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers. Final question requires a full sentence answer.

PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis

  • Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
  • Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.

PART 3 – Creativity

  • Students to imagine they're junior reporters and need to write an article about what happened at the Museum of Natural History. To include a drawing.
  • Students to imagine they work at the museum and are tasked with documenting the arrival of new artifacts. They imagine an unusual one has just arrived and need to write about it following the prompts on the document. Also to include a drawing of the artifact.

About the movie

After struggling to find a job and wanting to make his son proud, Larry Daley takes on the role of a night security guard at the Museum of Natural History. He soon discovers though, that an ancient curse causes the exhibits on display to come to life and wreak havoc. Based on the children's picture book by Croatian author/illustrator Milan Trenc.

PART 1 – Comprehension Questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions have also worked well with my ESL students. Answer keys included.

• 40 questions requiring full sentence answers.

• 30 questions requiring full sentence answers (10 removed from the 40 question set)

• 30 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers

- Critical thinking extension questions. There are 6 questions for the students to complete, which can later be used as a basis for class discussion. Example answers included.

Based on the book by S.E. Hinton, the movie follows the life of Ponyboy Curtis and his close friends. Growing up in the poor east side of town, Pony is part of a gang known as The Greasers, which has a rivalry with another gang known as The Socs, those from the rich side of town. Tension between the two gangs puts Ponyboy and his best friend Johnny in a bad spot.

This has 3 parts. Part 1 is the comprehension questions in chronological order. Part 2 is all about creativity and creative writing. Part 3 is for the early finishers, a word search.
PART 1 - These are the comprehension questions for the movie. I have made three sets of questions for differentiation. The multiple choice questions have also worked well with my ESL students (Includes the answers for all sets of questions)
• 50 questions requiring answers in sentences
• 25 questions requiring answers in sentences (25 questions removed from the 50 question sheet)
• 25 multiple choice questions
PART 2 – Creativity (Students imagine they are a member of the governor’s party that landed in the New World)
• Students need to draw a map of an island they landed on in the New World. They have to include a key of the important places they draw on the map.
• Students to write a detailed description of at least 5 places mentioned in their map key.
• One page of drawing and describing a native.
Part 3 – Just for fun
• 1 page with a Pocahontas word search (includes answers)
This movie is about Pocahontas, a film inspired by the known history and folklore surrounding Pocahontas and her encounter with the English, especially a man named John Smith.

Based on the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James R. Hansen, the movie is about the biopic life of the American astronaut Neil Armstrong and the legendary space mission that led him to become the first man to walk on the Moon on July 20, 1969. It also explores Neil's life leading up to this historic US event.
