About the movie

Society has all but removed the natural birthing process and now relies on genetically engineering humans to enhance abilities and remove genetic disorders. The movie follows the life of Vincent, one of the few humans born naturally, and his journey to fulfil his ambition of travelling to space. The problem is his genetic makeup means he can only apply for menial jobs, and must do something drastic to achieve his dream of space travel.

  • Using the notes, students to write an exciting article, which also includes a drawing and quotes from the interviews.

Based on a true story, the movie follows four Mexican high school students who form a robotics club under the guidance of their new substitute teacher. With little experience and a limited budget, the boys manage to put together an underwater robot good enough to enter into the National Underwater Robotics Competition. Working together they learn to build a bond that will last a lifetime. This is rated PG-13, you can get a free permission slip here.

The movie is about the Presley family, who after moving into a fixer-upper house find that the attic is haunted by a ghost named Ernest. After Kevin records the ghost and the video becomes viral, Ernest suddenly becomes a social media sensation and a target of the CIA paranormal division. This is rated PG-13 and does have swearing in it, you can get a free permission slip here.

About the movie: After plans of an Imperial space station are stolen by rebels against the Empire, two droids set off on a mission to keep them safe and ensure they don't end up in the wrong hands. The droids eventually meet Luke Skywalker, a farm boy from Tatooine who suddenly finds himself embroiled in the resistance on their mission to try and help stop the advancements of the Galactic Empire.

Marking idea for the comprehension questions

When the students have finished the questions, they swap their work with their friends to mark. We go through together as a class, taking it in turns to ask and answer questions. Students can also check grammar and spelling if more advanced, and then rechecked by the teacher.

Adapted from the book by Chris Van Allsburg (who also wrote Jumanji), the movie is about two brothers, Walter and Danny, who find a mysterious board game in the basement which transports their house into outer space. They try to survive the game so they can return home.

1. Make up a local legend they’ll use in the town.

2. Design at least one new contraption they’ll use with the “monster” and how it works.

3. Make a plan of how they’ll defeat the “monster”.

4. A layout of the stage where they’ll defeat the “monster”.

The movie is based on an exaggerated and fictitious portrait of the Brothers Grimm. Jake and Will Grimm travel from village to village pretending to protect townsfolk from enchanted creatures. They are put to the test when they encounter a real magical curse, requiring genuine courage.

PART 2 – Creativity (writing and design)

• Students to imagine they’ve stumbled upon a secret garden surrounded by walls. They then have to draw a plan of the garden and include the entrance, lots of flowers, trees, foliage, ornaments and anything else they think would look good in the garden. They need to label it too.

• Students to close their eyes and imagine they’re opening the gate to their secret garden. They visualize walking around and write in detail everything they can see and hear in the space provided.

• Students to describe in detail what their three favorite parts in their garden look like and why they're so special. They also need to include a picture.

Based on the 1911 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the movie is about a young girl named Mary Lennox, who after being sent back to England from India, goes to live on her Uncle Lord Craven's estate. It is a fairly isolated existence and she has to find things to keep herself occupied, which includes finding a secret garden.

    PART 1 – Comprehension questions. I have made three sets of questions for differentiation or depending on how much of a challenge you want to give the students. Answer keys included
    • 40 questions in chronological order.
    • 30 questions in chronological order (10 questions removed from the 40 question set)
    • 30 multiple choice questions in chronological order with 3 possible answers.
    PART 2 – recount writing, describing a character.
    • Students to imagine they’ve just interviewed Dora and her friends about their jungle adventure. They then write an article for their school paper.
    • Students to write a little bit about the favorite character in the movie. Includes describing them, writing about their personality and what the student liked and disliked about them. Also need to draw them.
    PART 3 – Puzzle (answer key included)
    1. First students need to put 10 events from the movie in the correct order.
    2. Following that, the students use those answers to get 10 letters that will go into the code box.
    3. They can then use those 10 letters in the code box to complete part of the secret message and to work out the sequence. Once they have the sequence they can work out the secret message and the answer to the riddle. I have highlighted the sequence in bold in the code box.
    Marking idea for the comprehension questions
    When the students have finished the questions, they swap their work with their friends to mark. We go through together as a class, taking it in turns to ask and answer questions. Students can also check grammar and spelling if more advanced, and then rechecked by the teacher.
    This movie is about Dora, a teenage explorer, who leads her friends on an adventure to save her parents and solve the mystery behind a lost city of gold.
