The Odyssey Movie Guide + Activities - Answer Keys Included

Description:

This 17 page movie guide with additional activities is for the film "The Odyssey (1997)".

★★ Check out the full preview! ★★

This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.

PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made two sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. I have split into 2 parts which are approx 1hr 30 mins each

  • 67 questions requiring full sentence answers and a second set in multiple choice format. Answer keys included.
    • First half - 35 questions (1hr 25 mins on the DVD version) or (1hr 30 mins on the 2 part TV version).
    • Second half - 32 questions (until the end).

PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis

  • Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
  • Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.

PART 3 – Creative writing

  • Students to imagine they’ve found the writings of one of Odysseus’s soldiers accounting their experiences of the voyage. Students continue writing on from 3 encounters from the movie. First is when the soldiers are in the wooden horse about to attack, the second is landing on Circe's island and ultimately getting turned into an animal, and the third is entering the sea cave and meeting Scylla followed by Charybdis.

Based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer and featuring Armand Assante as Odysseus, the movie follows Odysseus and his soldiers as they endure a decade long quest to reach home after the Trojan war.

The animated movie follows the life of Hercules. After being stripped of his immortality while still a baby, Hercules endures hardships to try and find his true self and ultimately become a true hero in order to reclaim his position on Mt. Olympus.
