★★ Check out the full preview! ★★

PART 1 – Comprehension Questions in chronological order. I have made two sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions will also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.

• 30 questions requiring full sentence answers

• 30 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers

PART 2 – Creative writing

• Students to imagine they’ve been asked to document Brian’s experience. First they draw an area map of his camp and important features and explain his reasons for why he chose that particular area. Followed by a short write up of Brian's thoughts and feelings on the first day and night.

• Students to write a newspaper article about Brian using the information from the previous task. Needs to include a drawing.

PART 3 – Storyboard and Synopsis

• Students to draw a 6 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to remind them of the sequences

• Synopsis. Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.

Based on the book Hatchet, written by Gary Paulsen, the movie is about 13-year-old Brian who is the sole survivor of an unreported plane crash. Alone in the wilderness, Brian must learn to survive by his wits, find food and shelter, and brave wild animals

Thank you, and enjoy!
