Description

This 14 page movie guide with handouts is for the film "The Call of the Wild (2020)". This guide will also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.

★★ Check out the full preview! ★★

PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students and students with learning difficulties. Answer keys included.

  • 35 questions requiring full sentence answers.
  • 25 questions requiring full sentence answers (10 removed from the 35-question set)
  • 24 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers. The last question requires a full sentence answer.

PART 2 – Storyboard and Synopsis

  • Students to draw a 6-scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to remind them of the sequences
  • Synopsis. Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.

PART 3 – Character profile for Buck, map drawing and letter writing

  • Students to draw a profile picture of Buck, describe his features and personality, then write what they like and dislike about him.
  • Students to draw an imaginary map of the area where Buck found the cabin. They need to label and mark the map with important features such as the stream, cabin, wolf den, etc. This is followed by writing an imagined letter that John wrote to his estranged wife outlining his experiences of the journey.

Set during the great Klondike Gold Rush, the movie follows the story of a young dog named Buck and his journey to find his real purpose in life. Based on Jack London's 1903 novel of the same name.
