This 11 page Halloween movie guide with additional activity handouts is for the film "Halloweentown (1998)".

This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.
PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made two sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.
- 35 questions requiring full sentence answers.

PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis
- Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
- Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.
PART 3 – Character creation and newspaper report writing
- Students to imagine they are a character living in Halloweentown. Using their creativity, they decide the type of character they'll be, such as a werewolf, ghost, witch etc then draw and write about it following the prompts.
- Students to imagine they are reporters from Halloweentown and write an article about the time when Kalabar was thwarted trying to convince everyone to become evil and take back the mortal world. To include quotes and a drawing.
The movie is about the Cromwell family and their secret connection to Halloweentown. When grandmother Aggie (who happens to be a witch) arrives to try and get her daughter Gwen's help to save Halloweentown, the children overhear and are suddenly whisked off for an adventure in this strange place where it’s always Halloween.
