Stellaluna Movie Guide + Activities - Answer Keys Included

This 8 page movie guide with handouts is for the film "Stellaluna (2002)". This guide will also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.

PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made two sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.

  • 20 questions requiring full sentence answers.

PART 2 – Favorite character and sentence writing.

  • Favorite character writing - Students to write a little bit about their favorite character in the movie. Includes describing them, writing about their personality and what the student liked and disliked about them. Also need to draw them.
  • Students first write sentences using each of the letters from the word “STELLALUNA”, then write about places in the movie where they felt sad, happy and excited.

Based on the book by Janell Cannon, the movie is about a baby bat named Stellaluna. After getting separated from her mother, Stellaluna ends up in a bird nest with 3 baby birds and does her very best to try and fit in.

Hoot Movie Guide + Activities - Answer Keys Included

This 14 page movie guide with handouts is for the film "Hoot (2006)". This guide will also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.

PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.

  • 35 questions requiring full sentence answers.
  • 25 questions requiring full sentence answers (10 removed from the 35 question set).
  • 25 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers.

PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis

  • Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
  • Synopsis. Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.

PART 3 – Creativity

  • Students to design the layout for the new owl sanctuary as mentioned in the movie by Mother Paula. They will need to include the entrance, walking areas, souvenir shop, owl living area and any other important features, and also a key. An area below the design is for any other information student wish to add about the design.
  • Students to design a poster for the opening of the new owl sanctuary. They will start with the poster layout which will include numbered placements:
  1. The name of the sanctuary.
  2. The date of the opening.
  3. At least one picture of an owl.
  4. Special events for the day.
  5. A short paragraph about the owls and the importance of protecting them.

- Once completed students to create the final poster either on Letter / A4 / A3 paper

Based on the novel by Carl Hiaasen, the movie tells the story of young teenager Roy Eberhardt, who stumbles across a population of endangered owls threatened by the construction of a new pancake house. Making friends with two other likeminded kids, the trio make plans to try and stop the construction and save the owls.

PART 2 – Word fun and word search. Answer keys included

  • There is a word bank with 12 words related to the movie to use in this part. For the first section students to unscramble the words from the word bank. Next is drawing a line through the letters spelling one of the words. Last of all is answering clues to find the words.
  • A word search with 15 words to find and 1 hidden word

Based on the novel by Beverly Clearly, the short movie is about a young boy called Keith who meets a talking mouse named Ralph at a hotel. Ralph takes an immediate liking to Keith's toy motorcycle and likes to ride it making motor noises as he goes.

City of Ember Movie Guide + Activities - Answer Keys Included

PART 2 – Recount and creative writing (problems and solutions)

  • (Students will need a dice) The first section students are to imagine they are part of the community during Assignment Day. Students will roll the dice to find out which job will be assigned to them, followed by writing a diary entry about their first day.
  • The second section, students to make up 3 problematic scenarios that may occur within their job and a possible solution. For each problem they need to explain what it is and why it likely happened, followed by the possible solution to fix the problem. Example answer included

PART 3 – Storyboard and Synopsis

Based on the 2003 novel The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau, the movie is about a city deep underground where the citizens live in a world of artificial lights. With the once powerful generator failing and the great lamps that illuminate the city starting to flicker, two teenagers race against time to search Ember for clues that will unlock the ancient mystery of the city's existence.
