The Prince of Egypt Movie Guide + Activities | Answer Keys Inc

This 11 page movie guide with additional activities accompanies the animated film "The Prince of Egypt (1998)".

This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.

PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made two sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.

  • 30 questions requiring full sentence answers.
  • 30 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers

PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis

  • Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
  • Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.

PART 3 – Pair work. Writing

  • Student work together in choosing which word best fits with selected quotes from the movie. Words include Arrogance, Cruelty, Hope, Bravery and Faith. Each word is used only once and students also need to briefly explain why the word chosen fits best with the quote they assigned it to. Includes answers, although students may have slightly different versions.

Adapted from the Book of Exodus, the movie follows the life of Moses from being a prince of Egypt to being chosen by God to deliver the enslaved Hebrews from the cruel oppressive Pharaoh and out of Egypt.

The Odyssey Movie Guide + Activities - Answer Keys Included

PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made two sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. I have split into 2 parts which are approx 1hr 30 mins each

  • 67 questions requiring full sentence answers and a second set in multiple choice format. Answer keys included.
    • First half - 35 questions (1hr 25 mins on the DVD version) or (1hr 30 mins on the 2 part TV version).
    • Second half - 32 questions (until the end).


PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis

  • Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.

PART 3 – Creative writing

  • Students to imagine they’ve found the writings of one of Odysseus’s soldiers accounting their experiences of the voyage. Students continue writing on from 3 encounters from the movie. First is when the soldiers are in the wooden horse about to attack, the second is landing on Circe's island and ultimately getting turned into an animal, and the third is entering the sea cave and meeting Scylla followed by Charybdis.

Based on the ancient Greek poem by Homer and featuring Armand Assante as Odysseus, the movie follows Odysseus and his soldiers as they endure a decade long quest to reach home after the Trojan war.

  • 34 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers. (Q14 requires a full sentence answer)

PART 3 – Creative writing (characters and newspaper report)

  • Students to write about one of the characters following the question prompts as well as drawing a picture of their chosen character.
  • Students to imagine they are junior reporters located in Thebes. Students imagine they interview Hercules and Phil who want to tell their story about the final battle with Hades and the Titans. Students write a short article including quotes from the interview and a drawing.

The animated movie follows the life of Hercules. After being stripped of his immortality while still a baby, Hercules endures hardships to try and find his true self and ultimately become a true hero in order to reclaim his position on Mt. Olympus.

  • Students to imagine what they think 3 of the characters might have been doing before Sarah met them. They need to write a short account of their day prior to meeting up with Sarah. Writing about Hoggle, Ludo and Sir Didymus

The movie follows sixteen-year-old Sarah, who after being forced to babysit her brother, angrily wishes for him to be taken away by the Goblin King. As her wish unexpectedly comes true, Sarah is given 13 hours to rescue him from the castle in the Goblin City which is nestled in the middle of a labyrinth.
