This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.
PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.
- 38 questions requiring full sentence answers.
- 25 questions requiring full sentence answers (13 removed from the 38 question set)
- 25 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers
PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis
- Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
- Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.
PART 3 – Character writing and Creativity
- Students to write about one of the characters following the question prompts and to include a drawing of their chosen character.
- Students to use their imagination to draw a map of what they think Fantasia might look like. Need to include important features and the route they believed Atreyu took for his quest. Students then go on to briefly describe Atreyu's route and any problems he encountered (see 25Q answer sheet for additional help on landmarks Atreyu encounters on his journey)
About the movie:
After escaping some bullies by hiding in a bookstore, Bastian finds himself borrowing a magical fantasy book. Reading it in the school attic Bastian is drawn into the mythical land of Fantasia, a place that desperately needs a hero.
