This 16 page movie guide with handouts accompanies the film "Coco (2017)". Steeped in Mexican culture and folklore, the movie follows young Miguel whose dreams of becoming a musician are hampered by his family's ban on music. Magically entering the Land of the Dead, Miguel embarks on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind his family history.

PART 1 -
There are 30 comprehension questions altogether. I have made two sets for the higher and lower grades. One set is multiple choice with 3 possible answers, and the other is full sentence answers. In chronological order with an answer key

PART 2 – Creativity
• Students to design and draw an imaginary spirit guide (alebrijes) with description.
• Decorating a calavera.

PART 3 – Character profiles. For a group of 4 if too much for one child.
• There are 4 character profiles to complete. Students draw a profile picture, describe their features and personality, then write what they like and dislike about that character. Includes the characters Miguel, Hector, Abuelita and Dante.

Word Search Fun - with 15 words to find, 5 of which need clues answered beforehand.

Sentence Fun – Students first write sentences using each of the letters from the words “Coco Movie” then write about places in the movie where they felt sad, happy and excited.

• There are 25 questions altogether. I have made two sets for the higher and lower grades. One set is multiple choice and the other is long answer. They are both in chronological order and include answers. I like to act out the scenes to the younger kids to give clues and help. It's great fun with kids. The multiple choice questions have also worked well with my ESL students.

PART 2 - One page is just for fun.

• There is a word search with 17 words and a calavera ready to be designed and colored.

PART 3 - Character profiles. For a group of 3 if too much for one child.

• There are 3 character profiles to complete. Students draw a profile picture, describe their features and personality, then write what they like and dislike about that character. Includes the characters Maria, Manalo and Joaquin.

This movie is about Manolo, a young man who is torn between fulfilling the expectations of his family and following his heart, embarks on an adventure that spans three fantastic worlds where he must face his greatest fears.
