This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.
PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.
- 45 questions requiring full sentence answers.
- 30 questions requiring full sentence answers (15 removed from the 45 question set)
- 30 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers.
PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis
- Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
- Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.
PART 3 – Creative writing
- Students to imagine they are at a school in the Bureau of Genetic Welfare and have been tasked to write an exciting article about the newcomers for the school paper. Imagining they've already interviewed them on arrival, they go on to write the article about the newcomers’ initial thoughts of living there and what they're looking forward to. To include quotes from the interviews and a drawing. (note: this is prior to any of them finding out about the reality of the Bureau and the Council)
Based on the novel by Veronica Roth, the movie is set in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five factions. Continuing on from the previous movie Insurgent, Tris and her friends make their plan to escape beyond the wall to find out the truth of the world around them.
