This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.
PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.
- 40 questions requiring full sentence answers.
- 30 questions requiring full sentence answers (10 removed from the 40 question set)
- 30 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers.
PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis
- Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
- Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.
PART 3 – Creative writing and characters
- Pair work. For each of the characters mentioned, students to write what they believe are important questions that need to be answered. Once done they swap their sheets with their partner and write a detailed answer to their partners questions, as though they are taking the place of the character. Finally, the students return the sheets back to their partner. Can be read out as a class and discussed together.
- Students to write about one of the characters following the question prompts and to include a drawing of their chosen character.
Based on the novel by Veronica Roth, the movie is set in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into five factions. Continuing on from the previous movie Divergent, Tris and her friends are on the run searching out more allies and answers following the Erudite uprising.
