This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.
PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple-choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.
- 40 questions requiring full sentence answers.
- 30 questions requiring full sentence answers (10 removed from the 40-question set)
- 30 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers.
PART 2 – Discussion questions (pair work). Example answers included.
- Students work in pairs to answer four critical-thinking questions related to the movie, censorship, and society.
- After the students have finished their work, come together as a class to discuss and debate each question.
PART 3 – Storyboard and synopsis
- Students to create a 9-scene storyboard, illustrating pivotal events from the movie. Each scene should include a short description explaining the main idea it represents. Use the movie questions to guide sequencing.
- Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.
PART 4 – Character mind map
- Students select a character from the movie and complete a mind map featuring movie details (personality, motivation, relationships, role, quotes, favorite scenes, etc.), a personal “Movie-to-Self” connection, and a growth mindset reflection using the phrase “I haven’t figured it out… YET.”
Based on an adaptation of Ray Bradbury's classic, in a dystopian future where firemen start fires instead of extinguishing them, Master Fireman Guy Montag enforces a regime that burns books to preserve societal "happiness." But when curiosity ignites doubt, one man's awakening challenges the flames of control.
