Halloweentown Movie Guide + Activities | Halloween | Answer Keys Inc

This 11 page Halloween movie guide with additional activity handouts is for the film "Halloweentown (1998)".

PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made two sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.

  • 35 questions requiring full sentence answers.
  • 35 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers

PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis

  • Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
  • Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.

PART 3 – Character creation and newspaper report writing

  • Students to imagine they are a character living in Halloweentown. Using their creativity, they decide the type of character they'll be, such as a werewolf, ghost, witch etc then draw and write about it following the prompts.
  • Students to imagine they are reporters from Halloweentown and write an article about the time when Kalabar was thwarted trying to convince everyone to become evil and take back the mortal world. To include quotes and a drawing.

The movie is about the Cromwell family and their secret connection to Halloweentown. When grandmother Aggie (who happens to be a witch) arrives to try and get her daughter Gwen's help to save Halloweentown, the children overhear and are suddenly whisked off for an adventure in this strange place where it’s always Halloween.

  • Using the notes, students to write an exciting article, which also includes a drawing and quotes from the interviews.

Based on a true story, the movie follows four Mexican high school students who form a robotics club under the guidance of their new substitute teacher. With little experience and a limited budget, the boys manage to put together an underwater robot good enough to enter into the National Underwater Robotics Competition. The movie is about the Presley family, who after moving into a fixer-upper house find that the attic is haunted by a ghost named Ernest. After Kevin records the ghost and the video becomes viral, Ernest suddenly becomes a social media sensation and a target of the CIA paranormal division. This is rated PG-13 and does have swearing in it, you can get a free permission slip here.
