PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.
- 50 questions requiring full sentence answers.
- 35 questions requiring full sentence answers (15 removed from the 50 question set)
- 35 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers
PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis
- Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
- Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.
PART 3 – News article writing
- Students to imagine they are junior reporters who go visit the boys after they won the competition. In the first part they write notes on the imaginary interviews in preparation to write a short news article, which will include questions and answers from the boys.
- Using the notes, students to write an exciting article, which also includes a drawing and quotes from the interviews.
Based on a true story, the movie follows four Mexican high school students who form a robotics club under the guidance of their new substitute teacher. With little experience and a limited budget, the boys manage to put together an underwater robot good enough to enter into the National Underwater Robotics Competition. Working together they learn to build a bond that will last a lifetime. This is rated PG-13, you can get a free permission slip here.
