This guide may also work well as a sub plan for your substitute teacher.
PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made two sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included. (Each page represents a part depicted in the movie: The Mentor, The Prize and The Peacekeeper)
- 52 questions requiring full sentence answers.
- 52 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers
PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis
- Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
- Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.
PART 3 – Characters
- Students to choose any character from the movie and write about them. To include a drawing.
- Students to write a short scene for three of the characters that performed an action off-screen. Lucy Gray’s journey from the reaping ceremony to the Capital, Sejanus bribing the Peacekeeper so he could sneak into the arena and Spruce taking the guns to the log cabin in the woods by the lake.
The movie follows a young Coriolanus Snow, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem as shown in the original Hunger Games with Katniss Everdeen. With the 10th Hunger Games looming, young Snow has been tasked with mentoring a tribute from District 12.
