The Dark Knight Movie Guide + Activities | Answer Key Included

This 16 page movie guide with additional activities accompanies the film "The Dark Knight (2008)".

PART 1 – Comprehension questions in chronological order. I have made three sets for differentiation. The multiple choice questions may also work well with ESL/ELL students. Answer keys included.

  • 60 questions requiring full sentence answers.
  • 45 questions requiring full sentence answers (15 removed from the 60 question set)
  • 45 multiple choice questions with 3 possible answers

PART 2 – Storyboard and synopsis

  • Students to draw a 9 scene storyboard of what they believe to be the most important parts in the movie. To include a brief description for each scene. Remind students they can look at the movie questions to help with the sequences.
  • Using their storyboards as guides, students to write a synopsis of the movie.

PART 3 – Character writing

  • Students to write about the Joker and Batman following the question prompts. Includes a drawing of both. Could be helpful as a stepping stone for a group analysis of the two characters.

About the movie

Harvey Dent is the new District Attorney in the city who takes an iron fist in bringing down Gotham's organized crime. As a result, the city's desperate mob bosses turn to the Joker, a sadistic psychopath who creates a new wave of chaos. Batman's struggle against The Joker becomes deeply personal, forcing him to confront everything he believes in, and his ability to fight injustice.

About the movie

Society has all but removed the natural birthing process and now relies on genetically engineering humans to enhance abilities and remove genetic disorders. The movie follows the life of Vincent, one of the few humans born naturally, and his journey to fulfil his ambition of travelling to space. The problem is his genetic makeup means he can only apply for menial jobs, and must do something drastic to achieve his dream of space travel.

  • Students to imagine they are junior reporters who go visit West Point Academy to interview a cadet named Edgar A. Poe. In the first part they write notes on the imaginary interview in preparation to write a short news article, which will include questions and answers from Mr. Poe.
  • Using the notes, students to write an informative article, which also includes a drawing and quotes from the interview.

Based on the novel by Louis Bayard, the movie follows Mr. Landor, a weary detective who is hired to investigate the murder of a cadet at the US Military Academy at West Point. Embarking on a challenging, time-sensitive mission to collect clues, he enlists one of their own to help unravel the case, a young man named Edgar Allan Poe.
